Group 3 Post Question 5

I think that the event of Prince William and Kate Middleton definitely had an impact on a good number of people around the world. Almost 2 billion people got up this morning and watched the wedding. Some because they wanted to and others because it's going to be a marked event in history. The royal family currently has been around for 300 years and they are very deeply loved by the people of The United Kingdom and of people around the world. This wasn't just a wedding. It was a wedding of the future King of England. That is something that doesn't happen everyday or every year. It is a grand event that will be remembered forever. It is a classic fairytale of a regular girl marrying a prince. This touches many people's hearts because we have grown up in a princess time and age. Whether it's in movies or in storybooks, girls dream of falling in love like Kate Middleton and Prince William did. I believe that this did touch many people but I also believe the other billions of people in the world don't care. So the question of has it affected people is hard to answer because it definitely depends. The news and newspapers did a very good job of getting the word out about the wedding and about the events that were gong to occur today. Most TV stations have been showing special shows all about the couple and the wedding plans all week and even into last week. Even though it doesn't directly affect people in the United States, I believe that people still believe in fairytale endings and being swept off their feet by a prince and it was definitely that occurring today. The wedding has definitely shown that love is evolving and it's not just about reproducing. I'm not saying that that was the case a couple years ago or anything but I believe that the emotion of love has evolved and means more than what it meant 100 years ago. Prince William dating Kate for so long definitely reassured that hypothesis because he wanted to make sure that she was truly ready for everything that came with him. It turned out that dating for those 9 years was the best thing for the both of them. That really shows the world that love doesn't need to be rushed. Society today reassures us of that. Love has evolved and Kate and William are wonderful example of that.

  1. It is funny to see how the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton affected people other than those living in England. For example, a sixteen-year-old girl that I work with was telling me how excited she was about the wedding. She told me that her and her mother were going to wake up at 4am to watch the wedding. Even though they are not a symbol to America, their love story is applicable to anyone from any country.
Their love sends a good message to our youth, that like you said, "shows the world that love doesn't need to be rushed".

  2. I couldn't ever imagine myself waking up at 4 AM to watch a royal wedding in a foreign country of people I don't know. I would assume that more women than men woke up early to watch the wedding. What girl wouldn't want to marry a prince?
