Jersey Shore Commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fTR__TLYd3s (It would not let me copy and paste so if that does not work then type into YouTube "Jersey Shore Commercial" and it should be the second one) What happened to music on MTV? I remember 5 years ago I would turn on MTV and hear actual MUSIC, isn't that what MTV stands for? Now I turn it on and all I see is this crap! It's not just Jersey Shore either; there are many more shows that are degrading the American culture and how other countries view us. They heavily value looks (especially their own appearance) and it seems that every night they sleep with someone else. Is this what our world has come to? I know that many people are not this bad but lately there have been numerous stories of people (mostly celebrities) who have been cheating on their partners many times because they were not satisfied. Why do so many people see the other gender as something temporary or insufficient? Why do we feel the need (mostly men) to go elsewhere for TEMPORARY pleasure? Old Spice Commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTvtFp__iPKc (again if this does not work then go to YouTube and type in "Old Spice Commercial" and you can really click on any of them) Where do I even start with these commercials? Every time I watch one of these commercials I have to laugh because they are so pointless and radical. They sarcastically imply that using Old Spice body wash will give you (or for ladies, your man) the power to do all the ridiculous stuff the big muscular man does. It is interesting to think that this product is for men but they advertise it to women (I guess thats why there is a big, muscular man with his shirt off all the time). Why is this so effective? Does anyone use this body wash and if you do, did you get it because of this commercial? Most shampoo or body wash commercials consist of naked people in the shower which can also be very effective but it is interesting to see that this new advertising path has caught many people's attention, which is the point. Please share any comments!!

I've always thought Jersey Shore was stupid in the first place, but again, this just doesn't help society at all! The fact that it's seemingly becoming acceptable to find temporary pleasure is almost embarrassing. I mean if people thought that Hester Pryne was horrible for her actions in The Scarlet Letter, what in the world would they think of our society today? What makes people think that it is acceptable? If you don't want to be with someone then don't, but don't sit there pretending while you're going behind their backs to be with someone else.
ReplyDeleteYou're argument is a legit one but I don't exactly see how it ties into the video. I understand that jersey shore is trashy TV and I would like music back too. But I think your argument that you are presenting and talked about is actually different. The fact that MTV was designed for music is not relevant to love in pop culture. I think your argument is of why people choose to cheat on their spouses or why relationships are frequently thought of as temporary? There might be articles on those topics in something else. But if you want to talk about jersey shore as a show and how they interact and their social norms on love then you should focus on that. It would be a very good thing to write about and you'll find a lot of things to write about.
ReplyDeleteI am kind of glad that you decided to pick something to do with Jersey Shore for one of your resources. By exhibiting their lack for traditional love and loving values, they can be imposing that this sort of activity is love and can affect all who are exposed to it. It's a valid resource for this project and an almost shameful show that I feel should be brought to light.
