Group 3 Post Question 5
Weiwei's Creative Writing
But, actually, when I met it at first, I didn't really into. The reason I think could be that I was forced to learn violin when I was only five years old. It is a big misery to any child who has to spend one hour every evening in practicing while others at the same age are watching TV or playing computer games. Because I was too young to understand the deep thesis of the great composer, I didn't enjoy the every single note I played at all. The great pieces of music which are regarded as graceful by everyone weren’t appealing to me. At that time, I totally didn't understand why my mother urges me to do that every day. Although she said it is good for me in the future, I still can't accept her opinion.
After I grow up, I play better than before because of the accumulated practice. Since them, I begin to realize that if I can combine every note very well instead of just stress one single note, I can make a beautiful piece of music. In addition, my mother introduced me to another experienced violin instructor. Under the teaching of my new teacher, I begin to know and understand the music I played. My instructor also explained some related information of the music to me, such as the background of the composer and what is the main idea that composer tries to express. She introduced the spirit and the soul of the classical music to me, leading to me to another stage of playing, which is let yourself moved by the music first and then move the audience by your interpretation. From then on, I became a crazy fan of classical music.
I love classical music because I can make a lot of friends through it. I join the college orchestra and have rehearsal every week. I also have performances every several months. As a result, I meet a lot of people who share the same interest of classical music. I also learned a lot of music knowledge from my friends who play different instruments like cello, clarinet, trumpet and oboe. It is really interesting when different instrument players talking about their funny experience. All in all, classical music brings me so much happiness; I love it.

Knowing that other people didn't care as much as I did didn't weaken my love for Ohio State football, but rather probably made it stronger. I felt like I had to prove that I was a great fan and really cared deeply about my team.

When I read a book, I do not get aggressive at all no matter what my feelings are. When I turn a page, my finger caresses the top to bottom right before grasping the page to be turned. I feel a book deserves respect for the ways it helps you relaz and the many things it does for you. You can never truly tell if a book is worn out from really being mistreated or if someone has used it so much that its life is nearly over. I always usea book mark because I feel it's the best way to show the book that you care about it's pages.
Also when reading a book my carnal love shows by the vast movement of my eyes and the pace that I read the book in. Almost any book can transport me to another time or place. When reading a book that I intimately connect with, I feel everything going on as if its just playing in my head. I live breathe, feel the words that were written on the pages. The intimate connection is deeper than just being able to see the words play in my head, I thirst for more. Once I stop, whether to take a snack or bathroom break, it's like the book has stopped too. I come back to the real world infront of me. When I read again, it's like I never stopped, I never left the world or place that I'm in during the story. Often times I find myself in a place of intimacy where I cannot quench my thirst for more unless there is a sequel. It's like an addiction. I don't know how to stop!

Group 3 Blog Project- The Royal Wedding
The royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton is this Friday April 29, 2011. There are hundreds of news and magazine articles, as well as newscasts on T.V. about the wedding and about their relationship. Reporters are anticipating a very large number of global viewers. About the same amount as Prince William's mother and father's wedding in 1981. Most people seem to be thrilled that the couple is getting married because it's bringing something fresh to the royal family, a "commoner."
The story of Kate Middleton is widely known as a Cinderella Story. She's going from a pretty average life to becoming a princess in what seems like a very short time. But it didn't just happen in a couple days. Kate and William took their time, in fact, they took almost 10 years to finally tie the knot. This is an example of love in today's society. Kate and William started out friends and were constantly around each other, which really seemed to help solidify their relationship because they developed a love for each other instead of jumping right into things. William is quoted in many instances saying that he wanted to ease Kate into things. Their relationship was tested in many cases by the media but in the end it seems to have all worked out. Nine years is a long time but it seems to have reassured both of them that they really do love each other and that Kate really is prepared for what is to come in the future. In today's society, it is accepted to marry at later ages and date for many years. What keeps people talking is that it is the first real time this was done within the royal family. There was never any pressure, other than the normal amount, to get married right away and have children. This was new territory for the royal family, which shows that even a tradition as old as love in the royal family is keeping up with today's day and age.
A comparison that this source and most media productions today are using is that of Princess Diana and Prince Charles' wedding versus Prince William and Kate's. Princess Di got married to Prince Charles when Diana was 19 years old only after dating him for 6 months prior. Kate stated in the video that love can consume people when they are young and many people believe that is what happened to Princess Diana and Prince Charles. The obvious difference between the two relationships is that of how much they are believed to have built a firm base to their love. William and Kate have been working to strengthen their relationship for almost 10 years in order to maybe prevent something like Diana and Charles' very public mistakes.
Some questions that we want to discuss with you are: Is the media altering her way of "properly" loving or falling in love with Prince William? Do you think that the time helps build a relationship? How is this wedding impacting the world or your view of love? If you were in Kate's position, would you have stuck with it as long as she did?

There are two categories of people that love running. The first category is someone who loves stepping on the treadmill or going to the park as if it’s show for someone else. They wear shorts that match their shoes which also match their sports bra. They are overly concerned with how they look and are not there to partake in a good workout. They want the attention of others and spend extra time getting ready just so they look presentable. They do not have the mindset of an athlete and are merely there long enough to grab the attention of a guy they have been trying to impress. I have gone to the gym way too many times and I have seen girls that do this. For me, I try to ignore them because clearly they are not there for the right reasons. Although, I could never be like that, it’s not my place to say if what they are doing is right or wrong.
Then, there is another category of someone who loves running. This person gets excited in the morning thinking about being able to run within the next couple of hours. They are not concerned with how they look and spend more time thinking about how they can challenge themselves in their workout. This type of person feels a “high” from running 5, 6, or ten miles every day. When they step onto that treadmill they separate themselves from the rest of the world and get into a true runner’s mindset. Time doesn’t matter to people who love running. It’s an addiction for them and they feel anxiety when they don’t take time out of their day to go for a run. For me, this is how I define my love for running. I use running as a tool for stress relief and I genuinely feel better after I have cleared my mind with a run. I don’t work out for anyone but myself and I’m not there to impress people either. I was on the cross country team and everyone I ran with described the idea of the “runner’s high.” You could be in the worst mood before practice but afterwards you felt a million times better. Running gives you a chance to do something for yourself and escape from the stresses of the world.
These two people love running in completely different ways. One form of love is not very committed, shallow, and egotistical. The opposing form of love is passionate, genuine, and everlasting.

When I was a young boy, I used to go out into the wilderness with my dad for hiking and just the joy of being in nature. Wherever he would go, he would bring his camera. He would be constantly taking pictures, countless rolls of everything he saw that he thought might be worthwhile. Because I was young and impressionable, this is how I learned to set up my photography. I followed my dad’s example and sought out to find interesting ways to capture the way the world looks and functions. It wasn’t until my high school photography class that I really realized the other way to use photography, as a tool for expressing oneself. Our class at first had essentially two types of photographers, the capturing type and the expressing type. Needless to say, both groups had very different ways of taking a picture and we were all, at first, pretty ridged in our styles. As the class progressed, both groups learned to integrate the two styles together, realizing that to be a great photographer, you cant just focus in one realm, you need to be good at both, fluent in both languages of the subject. Through this gradual class wide realization, the more motivated students learned to efficiently use both sides together and reach new levels in their ability and skill.

Ever since I was a little boy, I always had a deep love for the game of basketball. I really get a lot of joy out of playing it, watching it, and even reading about it. This love really became evident when I was in high school, but since I was a multi-sport athlete, I could not just play basketball all of the time. Now that I am in college, all of that has changed and I can really spend a lot of time with just basketball. I even have the privilege to play every day at one of the recreational centers here at Ohio State. It’s always a joy comparing yourself to one of the players while in a game, or even calling out your favorite player’s name while you pull up for a jump shot.
This year, I had purchased student tickets for many of the buckeye basketball games. I would look forward to every game, no matter what day it was or how early I had to get to the stadium to stand outside and wait, wearing my scarlet and grey wig and nuthouse shirt. I am one of those people who have a deep obsessive love for buckeye basketball, a die-hard fan. Then there are others who don’t really care about the behind the scenes things that are going on, but will tune in and watch the game on TV if they are given the chance. These people are occasional lovers. I, on the other hand, will watch every game no matter what, then after the game read the post-game analysis given by multiple sportscasters, and then get on forum boards and read even more about what people have to say about the Buckeyes. Not only do I like to read about the team right now, but I even go so far to read about the players that Ohio State is recruiting, to game further knowledge of the future and what is in store for me. Some people think I may go a little overboard or care too much about Buckeye basketball, but to me, they don’t care enough. This means the world to me.
Nick Summe - Creative Writing on Skiing
I love skiing. I’ve gone skiing in Colorado and Utah almost every year since I was ten years old. Most of the time, I would be with my cousin and a friend who are both my age. We would constantly be pushing ourselves to see who could go the fastest, jump off the biggest cliff, and basically do anything that might be considered dangerous. We had a passion for skiing and would spend as much time on the slopes as possible. Many of our parents on the other hand, took a different approach to skiing. Each one of them varied in the ways they enjoyed their mountain vacations. What they had in common was that they all skied with less intensity, risk and passion than my friends and I did. My dad’s favorite thing about skiing is just looking at the mountain views. The mountains do look nice but it’s not the point of the whole vacation. My mom only skied on the green runs and went slower than I could ever stand to manage. My friend’s mom barely ever skied, likely because she was too out of shape. But, for some reason she owned her own pair of boots and skis. She liked to shop a lot on skiing vacations. My aunt decided to take a ski lesson one day so she could show off her skills. The instructor told her to “attack the slope” and that’s exactly what she did. She was confident in her new found abilities and went down a hard blue run with my cousin and I. As we watched her ski down from the bottom of the run, we saw her attacking the slope as she was now an expert skier after having one lesson. She soon fell and we both started laughing at how overconfident she was. Unfortunately, she broke her knee and later had to have surgery. She wouldn’t be that confident about skiing again and went back to the green slopes with my mom.
Love & Volleyball
There I was, sitting in my last period class waiting for the bell to ring. When I finally heard that glorious bell I dashed for the classroom door, grabbed my bags, and headed to the gymnasium to meet up with the team and head onto the bus for our game. It was playoffs and they couldn’t have taken any longer to come. We had been practicing day in and day out for the whole season and we could hardly believe we had made it this far. We took the match to three games and finally won in the last few points scored. It was a miracle. It was the first time our school volleyball team had ever made it to Regional’s and I felt so proud to be part of the team. On the bus ride home I was deep in thought, thinking about how much I truly loved the game.
I turned to my friend and we talked about how much hard work it took to make it that far. It took a lot of commitment and passion to love those three hour long, sweat filled, floor-burned knees, and smelly knee pad practices. But once you were in the game, none of that mattered. My position on the team was more of an offensive player. I was an outside hitter and blocker. There was nothing more satisfying than getting the kill or getting the block for the point. There was something I loved about stepping back off the net and running with all of my might in order to jump my highest and slam the ball down onto the opponent’s side of the court. Being on the net provided many opportunities to talk crap to the other team and to let them know you were here to win.
When I told my friend how much I loved my position, she said she would have to disagree. She was a defensive specialist, also known as, a libero. She loved the feeling of not knowing exactly where the ball was going to hit and she loved being able to judge the other team and hopefully make the play. She loved the game for a whole other reason than I do. She loves the feelings she gets when she gets a great dig which leads to my kill. All in all, our two positions work hand in hand. And we both have a love for the game.
Nate Wolff's Short Essay of Love
The reasons why I love working rescue squad are different than my driver’s reasons. To me, I thoroughly enjoy not knowing what I am going to be doing for the next 12 or 24 hours. We either do 12 or 24 hour shifts, which is a long time to not have a built in schedule for your day. Usually, I have a schedule for what I am going to do for the day, which gives structure and balance to my life. However, at rescue squad, I could be running calls non stop in obscure locations or I could be bored at the station waiting for a call. Once we get a call, my adrenaline kicks in and I am 100% set on helping my patient to the best of my abilities. After I drop the patient off at the hospital, the feeling of self-satisfaction that I get is indescribable. Furthermore, the feeling I get when the patient or their family thanks me is also difficult to explain. In contrast, my driver, Steve, has different reasons why he does rescue squad. Granted, he is still a compassionate person, he still loves working rescue squad because he gets to drive the ambulance very fast with lights and sirens. To me, nothing is more scary than driving an ambulance. However, to Steve, nothing is more terrifying than patient care. His form of taking care of a patient is driving them safely to the hospital while I physically take care of them in the back. Steve’s form of love for rescue squad made me realize the importance that the role the driver plays. I always took it for granted that we would get to the scene and to the hospital safely; however, it is his love for driving that keeps me and my patients safe.

Weiwei Tang Individual Post of Question 3
According to BEP’s opinion, U.S government is another typical representative of “lacking love”. As lyric says, U.S government is trying to stop the terrorism overseas, however, at the same time people are under the threat of domestic violence and crimes. BEP is arguing that government should solve internal problem first rather than spend a lot of money, time and human resources wiping out all the potential foreign terrorism. Gang members of Bloodz, Crips and the KKK are the real terrorists making a lot of criminal activities and hurts to people. They should be arrested and punished as soon as possible. BEP also points out that U.S government is very selfish and self-interest. The politicians who start wars not because they want to liberate poor people in foreign countries or eliminate the potential threatening to U.S, but because they want to get benefits through weapon manufacturers. They don’t care people’ lives at all, just think about how many soldiers died in Iraq.
These points of view reflect that BEP is concerning some social and political issues. He uses the pop music as a medium to propose his concerns, for example, he wants the society to pay more attention to the children caring and educating. The kids, they need more love than adults, because they are the future. In addition, he argues the negligent performance of U.S government and politicians’ duties. The goal to set up government is to contribute a better life to people and the politicians, they own the responsibility to manage it. But, in BEP’s opinion, both of them don’t function well.

Group 2 Blog Project- Black Eyed Peas: Where is the Love?
The song “Where is the Love,” has our English course theme right in the title; therefore, there was an immediate connection for us. Using rap and hip-hop in this song, the band Black Eyed Peas uses a pop culture medium to ask the question, “Where is the Love?” This choice was a group decision because of all of the elements it includes is cohesive with our class theme.
A question mark appears very frequently in the video, symbolizing the title and the question, “Where is the Love?” The colors of the question mark vary throughout the video, and carry a deep meaning. The black question mark symbolizes death and killing, and the white symbolizes its opposite, life. The color red symbolizes love while the colors of black and white make up important parts of our lives. Happiness and a full life only come when we remember that we need more than just black and white. We need the red, or the love, to feel complete. The love adds color to life and unifies us all as one.
About half way through, the video takes an upward turn. The van drives up a hill while children are raising their arms and smiling. A man is raising his arms to the sky and people are looking upwards. Even aliens, from up above, are asking the same question, as seen by the crop formation of a question mark. People who find love have changed the path of their life into an upward direction, which symbolizes happiness and something better; a step in the direction of unity. This could also be enhanced by people raising their arms in the air towards the end of the video. More smiles are seen in the second half of the video, which leads to the love they see in the sky as universal, since everyone is looking in the same direction.
Children’s attitudes about love and hate have an important place in this video. Children’s faces and their emotions are often the main focus. Their sadness is evident in their faces in the beginning, along with some of the learned behaviors that instill hate in their hearts, such as violent video games. The message of hate has trickled down into the lives of these children. They are the first to remember the importance of love because of their direct relationship with the disconnected “grown ups” they use as role models.
This song/video proposes that love has been overshadowed by hate, a lack of unity, and societies allowance for an unnatural state. Racial discrimination also plays an important role in the video. Almost all of the people in the video are minorities. At one point, a white police officer is chasing a black man who tried to spread the message of love. This symbolizes a division in the races, and a lack of understanding of love between races. The minorities are seen engaged in various stereotypical situations that include negative connotations such as drug dealing and stealing. One black man, while being watched by a store security camera, seems to be trying to steal from a convenience store. However, the black man turns out to be spreading the message of love as opposed to stealing and dividing the races.
While watching this video we want the class to keep in mind a variety of thoughts and questions. First, how do the lyrics and the music video evoke a sense of wrongdoing by the population as a whole? Secondly, if you were the director of this music video, how would you have directed it to deliver the question, “Where is the Love?” Lastly, to you, what was the most memorable aspect of the video? Was it the expressions on the people’s faces? The heavy atmosphere? You decide.

Winnie Agbalevu Individual post question 4
The featured text didn’t have any direct reference or appeals to the audience, the reporter was just reporting what happened and how it might have affected the team. But since the article was found while watching ESPN, it should be directed to sports fans. The featured text however was just describing what happened and how Davies having pre-marital sex with his girlfriend has cost him to get kick off the team. Him getting kick off because he went against the role of BYU and how he was the third-highest scorer on the team; the reporter also states hoe Davies' absence was clearly felt at the team's last basketball game. They lost by double digits, their first loss in seven games.
The writer seem to ask for the audience opinion by having a post a comment section under the article but did not pose questions for the audience to respond to. Some of the comments could not believe what happened but still believed since he signed the contract and know the honor code he shouldn’t have went against it. Other comments also were so proud of what happen and they might have been Mormons also. However, the featured text did not have any direct references to the audience.

This post about the pretty amazing contest, is the search for the next seventeen Magazine cover girl. I am glad seventeen magazine wants a regular girl to be the cover and not a celebrity for once but despite all that, they have beauty tips on how to look, how to pose and even how to get a cover magazine hair which i still thinks implies that they want certain types of girls on the cover. This could still encourage what the definition of beauty is in our society today; which could make those who don't win feel like they are not pretty enough.

This post advertises a human sushi platter; this ad is a form of objectifying women as tables even though men also are used for the body sushi. I don't know how it is valued in japan since is originally an obscure Japanese practice, I still think is a form of objectification.
