KLUTE Sample Primary Post

Source #1- Brad Paisley, I'm still a Guy http://www.cowboylyrics.com/lyrics/paisley-brad/im-still-a-guy-22299.html This song came on my iPod and really tied in the discussion we had in class about the article, "The Feminization of Love." This song discusses the sterotypical ways a guy is supposed to act based off of the rules that society has put in place. It illustrates the idea that women have more feeling than men do. Brad Paisley makes men out to be very practical but gives many examples of how men show love without saying things like "I love you." Sources #2- Dr. Pepper Commercial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_KswB3SgBI&feature=related This commerical shows how men can show affection towards women as well and the feminine scale that they are judged on. He ends up leaving his girlfriend because she steals his Dr. Pepper after he did so much for her.

  1. This kind of reminds me of the ad we had to write about in the first lecture class where the guy was "having sex" but was really picturing a car. I feel as this guy is doing all these things for this girl, which is what is typically to some extent expected from a man, he is really doing it because he loves Dr. Pepper, not her. Funny commercial and a good pick!

  2. I really like the first source with brad paisley because it really ties in with the feminization of love and it also ties in with the gender article we read. In the song, Paisley says that hes willing to show emotion towards his woman. The lyrics "pour out my heart, hold your hand in the car, write a love song that makes you cry" shows that men really can love. He also says though that because he is a man, he must do certain things that are associated with what men do. This could be analyzed as an effect of society or an effect of birth. I agree with Nick's comment because the second source is related to the bmw commercial, representing how men look at women as objects.

  3. I think the Dr. Pepper commercial is very close to the clip we watched in class where the guy always stuck with the Eagles and the girl always changed. Just another way of showing a man's love for objects over women. The Brad Paisley song is also a good one to choose because it shows that society is trying to change the man. Although she's trying to change him, he's telling her that hes not going to change that much because thats just the way he is. He's "still a guy."

  4. First of all, I want to say I am a super fan of Dr.Pepper. So, I really like the commercial. The ending reminds me that maybe men can also be as emotional as women. If someone took their most important thing, they will fight back! As the commercial shows, the man left the woman at last.
